COMPARISON OF THE NATIONAL MOBILITY SURVEY WITH THE CHARACTERISTICS OF TRAFFIC ON THE DUTCH NATIONAL HIGHWAY AND MOTORWAY SYSTEM
VERGELIJKING ONDERSOEK VERPLAATSINGSGEDRAG MET KENMERKEN VAN HET WEGVERKEER OP HET NEDERLANDSE HOOFDWEGENNET
The "Onderzoek Verplaatsings Gedrag" (OVG-National Mobility Survey) of the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) reflects the mobility of the Dutch population. The OVG is an important tool to validate the outcome of transportation studies. It is therefore necessary to investigate the performance of OVG on the Dutch National Highway and motorway system in order to carry out these validations. Two comparisons were made: (1) for totals of auto traffic on screenlines (2) for characteristics of traffic i.e. purpose distribution and trip length distribution as registered on OVG and roadside surveys. The major conclusion is that the ovg represents the traffic and the characteristics on the national highway and motorway system rather well. The distribution of "business" and "work" is clearly different between OVG and the roadside surveys. Recommendations are made to unify the questionnaire and possible pre set answers between OVG and roadside surveys. For the covering abstract of the conference see TRIS 453956. (TRRL)
