THE PRICE OF MOBILITY. AN INQUIRY INTO HOUSEHOLD EXPENDITURES ON TRANSPORT
KWIJT AAN MOBILITEIT. EEN ONDERZOEK NAAR DE UITGAVEN VAN HUISHOUDENS AAN VERKEER EN VERVOER
Using publications from the Netherlands Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS)on their family-expenditure surveys and the 1980 figures on individual household expenditures, this study analyses the expenditure of households on transport and communication. The study is divided into three parts: a description of the developments in transport-expenditure rates, a detailed survey of the effects of demographic, socio-economic and regional household characteristics on expenditure rates, and an international comparison. A study of transport expenditures fits into the framework of travel-budget studies which pay attention first and foremost to the time and money spent on transport rather than to the moves involved. This type of study is relevant to the development of transport planning models and the socio-economic evaluation of alternative transport policies.
