TRANSPORTATION POSSIBILITIES FOR DISABLED PERSONS: FOUR DEVELOPMENT SCENARIOS

VERVOERSMOGELIJKHEDEN VOOR GEHANDICAPTEN: VIER ONTWIKKELINGSSCENARIO'S

The AGV traffic and transportation consulting group carried out in 1975 an investigation into alternative transport for people having a handicap. This investigation served as the basis for three further phases of research. The first two phases were entitled: "Alternative Transport for Disabled Persons in the Netherlands: A Typology," August 1978: (a supplement to this report was: "Transport for Disabled Persons in the United States and Sweden: A Literature Survey," April 1979) and "Transportation Conduct and Requirements by Disabled Persons: An Inquiry," December 1979 (see IRRD 249904). The report summarized here forms the third and concluding phase of this series of investigations. There is no consensus between the various interested parties over how public transport for disabled persons should be put into practice. In particular, the expected costs of the various possible solutions appears to repeatedly give rise to confusion. The investigation described is intended to give an insight into the problem of the mobility of disabled persons in general, and the costs and advantages of the possible solutions in particular.
