BICYCLE PLANNING IN AUSTRALIA. CHAPTER 7. BICYCLE PLANNING METHODS

The four phases of the planning methodology used in the preparation of bicycle plans are described. The phases involve data collection, development of a bicycle strategy, detailed bikeway planning, and finally documentation. The collected data are analysed and then summarised on a series of drawings or overlays to a base map of the study area. During the next phase -the synthesis phase -a preliminary evaluation of the data is made and the information gained is combined with information from other sources to formulate a composite bicycle engineering strategy. A bikeway scheme is prepared, and draft bicycle maps produced. A project report is written and circulated for comment, and an exhibition held. The planning methodology as described in this chapter consists of a total of 25 steps, which are discussed in some detail. For the record of the covering entry for the book, see TRIS no 452283.
