UNIVERSITY OF SURREY. A NEW DEVELOPMENT IN MARINE ENGINEERING EDUCATION
The University of Surrey is offering a course of engineering training specially adapted to the requirements of the marine engineering industry. It is intended that there should be an integration between the academic studies and industrial experience. Hence in the first two years the fundamental principles of engineering science are studied together with design, mathematics and general studies. In the fourth year, i.e., the final year, four main subjects are studied including marine engineering technology, applied dynamics, automatic control and power engineering. The third year (15 months) is spent in industry gaining practical experience in a heavy engineering works and in the engineering department of a ship at sea. Details are given for the structure of the course, laboratory facilities available, and faculty.
