SUPPLY MODELS FOR LARGE TOWNS: THE USE OF MODELS IN THE STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT OF THE DEVELOPMENT IN THE TRADE INFRASTRUCTURE IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA

In Czechoslovakia prognosis and research solutions concerning the problems of large towns and agglomerates are constantly being studied by several urbanistic and economic-scientific research institutes and universities. One of the research programmes of recent years, forming part of the state plan of economic research, was the supplying of the shops in large towns with goods in great demand, i.e. mainly products of the food industry. This research was included in the programme of extensive scientific-technical co-operation of the CMEA (Council for Mutual Economic Assistance) member countries, with the participation of experts from Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, GDR, Rumania and the USSR. The results of this international research were discussed by the meeting of ministers of trade of the CMEA countries and approved as a basis for the further elaboration and application in large towns of the participating countries. This article presents some selected examples of spatial-economic and technical-economic solutions, prepared by the author in Czechoslovakia, dealing with conditions in the capital of Czechoslovakia, Prague.
