GOODS DISTRIBUTION CENTERS: A CONTRIBUTION TO THE SYSTEMATIZING OF LOCAL GOODS TRAFFIC IN TOWNS

It is not a new idea to achieve an improvement of the regional road system by co-operative combination of the diverse activities and firms of the sector of goods transport and distribution, and, at the same time, to achieve a higher quality level of goods supply by means of different forms of organization and techniques. Practical experience in various projects can be gathered in the meantime. From this experience, the "feasible and acceptable" structure of a GVZ (goods distribution center) is derived, and, in particular, aspects are presented clearly that must strictly be observed, should obstacles with reference to psychology and policy relating to trade and industry not conflict with this obviously effective action of forming a system.
