T4: A PROPOSED FOURTH RAPID TRANSIT LINE FOR STOCKHOLM
A detailed description is given of the proposed T4 rapid transit system which is planned to connect Stockholm's several city centre "nodes". The existing metro or tunnelbana has a radial pattern but plans for the future of the city envisage fast communications around an inner ring of business centres which connect to the existing network where they cross (the nodes). The T4 project differs from most LRT projects in that it injects light rail vehicles into a section of the metro. A detailed description is given of the proposed route, headways, rolling stock and standards of construction. Suggestions are made as to how the network can be run with regard to access and payment for tickets. Planned to operate as an integral part of the tunnelbana network several opportunities are identified for further extension of T4. (TRRL)
