VEHICLE BODY DESIGN AND THE UIC'S INTERNATIONAL CONTRIBUTION
This article, the text of which forms the basis of a presentation to the UK Institution of Mechanical Engineers on 8th October 1985, Derby, begins by sketching rapidly the process whereby railway vehicle body structures passed from their first stages dating back to the time the railways first existed to today's modern design principles. In the second part, it goes on to describe in somewhat greater detail the present lines of research followed by the railways in this field within the UIC context.
