PUBLIC TRANSPORT COORDINATION IN SHIRE COUNTIES AFTER DEREGULATION

The paper outlines developments in the PTE's (Public Transport Executives), shire counties and other research which could be of benefit during and after deregulation. In the majority of cases the use of computer hardware and software packages has been a prerequisite of these developments. The areas covered include: 1) the identification of loss making local bus services, tendering and compliance with registration; 2) coordination of local bus services and local authority education transport arrangements; 3) monitoring of concessionary fare schemes for the elderly, blind and disabled; 4) public transport in rural areas, coordination of local bus services with the transport requirements of social service and education department, health authorities, the post office and voluntary bodies.
