SECOND GENERATION EPOXY COATINGS FOR AGGRESSIVE ENVIRONMENTS
In recent years the demand for greater performance from epoxy coatings has been increasing. Because the transportation and storage of very aggressive chemicals has continued to grow, there are more situations where resistance to these chemicals at elevated temperatures is required. In many of these environments the standard bisphenol-A epoxies cured with poly(amidoamine) or conventional amine adducts are not suitable. There are now second generation epoxy resins and hardeners that give significantly better performance and that have been finding their way into applications where epoxies have never been considered before. This article discusses these second generation epoxy coatings and gives a comparative analysis of their chemical resistance properties.
