METHOD FOR TESTING THE CORRODIBILITY OF HEAT-AFFECTED ZONES IN STEEL
A new method for testing the corrodibility of heat-affected zones (HAZ) has been developed. Test bars with different heat-affected zones are prepared according to the Noren Weld Hardening test, and submitted to potentiostatically controlled anodic dissolution. It has been observed that in seawater, the corrosion rate of the HAZ in mild steel increases when the heat input equivalent used in welding decreases. These results have been verified by long-term corrosion tests of welded plates.
