SUPERCUSHION FOR SUPERTANKERS
Description of a new fender which was originally designed to replace the dead whales used as fenders in ship-to-ship contacts by Japanese whaling fleets in the Antarctic. Now it enables the safe transfer of crude oil into smaller vessels from the super tankers that are just too big to be handled by many ports. It is the pneumatic rubber fender produced by one of Japanese rubber factories. The rubber/polyester/rubber layers for the giant fenders are built up in an iron mold. Application field for fenders developed is presented and some of them illustrated.
