PARKING BEHAVIOUR IN THE TOWN CENTRE

PARKEERGEDRAG IN DE BINNENSTAD

The main aim of the traffic and transport policy of the municipality of the Hague was to build multi storey parking garages for short-term parking. Today six parking garages have been built and the construction of four more parking garages is in hand. From a continuous survey it has been shown however that these garages are not optimally used. Drivers were interviewed on motives for parking in the town centre, the duration of parking, the place of destination, the frequency of visiting the garage. Reasons for not using parking garages are: high tariffs, the inefficient location in relation to shopping areas and the lack of personal safety. (TRRL)
