APPLICATION OF ADINA IN ANALYSIS OF A SOIL STRUCTURE

Soil shows specific nonlinearities in stress-strain behaviour which have been modelled in various ways. Considering numerical analysis, it is not thought useful or convenient to use a very sophisticated law needing much computing time to determine various parameters for the law. The Drucker-Prager model, which ADINA provides, is one of the simplest models, employing only four parameters, and is widely used for this type of analysis. The paper gives recent results of an analysis using ADINA for a soil-cutting problem with the Drucker-Prager model and compares the results with theoretical solutions and experiments. The paper was presented at the proceedings of the 5th ADINA Conference, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 12-14 June, 1985. (TRRL)
