The Hoesch rerailing equipment, fabricated of light metals for easy handling, has been designed for accomodating light rail vehicles and transit cars. Articulated cars of two systems--Portland and San Diego--have been designed to simplify the use of this system of hydraulic jacks. The jacks may be operated in three directions simultaneously to rerail cars. Some transit systems have hi-rail trucks for moving to derailment sites with the Hoesch equipment along with other tools, including air bags for righting derailed cars leaning against tunnel walls.
