DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING OF A HIGH SPEED POWER BOGIE

A new type of power bogie was developed basing on the results of theoretical investigations. These power bogies with alternating engagement of the drive unit (UmAn) were tested in the speed range up to 250 km/h. Essential improvement to the running stability and the level of guiding forces, as predicated by the design calculations, were achieved. The continuation of this development led to power bogies for the ICE with a maximum speed of 350 kh/h. Calculations showed that for proper design calculations more specific information about log wave track irregularities are essential. ICE will start service in 1985 and the UmAn power bogies will then demonstrate their running qualities in the speed range up to 350 km/h.
