CEMENT STABILISATION ON ROAD MAINTENANCE TRIAL

Trial use of cement stabilisation to repair two severely frost-damaged roads in East Sussex with savings in cost and time is briefly described. A 2 m wide strip of existing carriageway is broken up by rotovator, cement is spread on the pulverised surface at the rate of 8 per cent by volume, followed by another pass of the rotavator and finally compaction by vibrating roller. Use of a glass fibre reinforced surface dressing allows the road to be reopened to traffic immediately by removing the need for a delay for curing of the cement. (TRRL)
