SOFT GROUND TUNNEL SHIELDS IN JAPAN
In Japan, as a modern approach to underground development, shield tunneling methods have been used increasingly for various projects such as rail tunnels, sewers and other utility networks. One of the most important features of tunneling is the selection of the optimum shield machine--the unit which works best under specific soil conditions with the greatest economic feasibility.
