MANAGEMENT OF ROAD MAINTENANCE TO REDUCE COMMUNITY COSTS

Pavement management systems have been shown to provide considerable savings and benefits to the operator. Such systems require the input of considerable field data and inventory, the cost of which is significant in terms of time and personnel. The paper describes Australian built equipment and associated software, which can be used to collect both the functional and structural condition of a pavement. Processing the data to provide further maintenance scheduling data can be computed to provide recommendations as to maintenance strategies and the consequences of deferred maintenance. (TRRL)
