FIGHT THAT SPEEDING TICKET IF YOU THINK YOU'RE INNOCENT, BUT HOPE FOR AN OFFICER AND JUDGE WHO UNDERSTAND RADAR

Following a brief review of the effectiveness of radar in apprehending speeders in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, this article points out some of the possibilities of error that exist when radar equipment is being used by police officers who have not received adequate training. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has proposed minimum equipment and training standard, but Florida, North Carolina and Michigan are the only states with legislation requiring police departments to meet those standards. AAA Potomac currently is seeking legislation from state lawmakers to require all police departments to meet NHTSA standards.
