ISUZU'S NEW TRANSMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM

The world's first electronically-controlled five speed transmission has thus been developed by Isuzu. It is called NAV15, which stands for new advanced vehicle with intelligence. NAV15 is an automatic transmission capable of electronically controlling a dry clutch and a synchromeshed gear transmission to permit easy driving, making maximum use of the excellent fuel economy of the manual transmission system. The adoption of a computer program duplicating the actions of experienced drivers in manual transmission shifting and the select lever with h-floor shift pattern enables a sporty gearshift, just like a manual transmission on the one hand and easy driving by merely depressing the accelerator pedal as an automatic transmission on the other. In particular, this transmission system has eliminated the difficulties normally associated with a dry automatic clutch in stop-go traffic conditions and improved safety in vehicle start on an upgrade, the weakest point of the conventional automatic clutch without torque converter, by introducing a unique, new advice.
