NINTH INTERNATIONAL FORUM ON TRAFFIC RECORDS SYSTEMS. PROCEEDINGS. ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA, JULY 18-21, 1983

The papers are published that were presented at this annual meeting which was designed to promote the interchange of information among those who operate or use traffic records systems in support of highway safety programs. The principal areas covered in this meeting are law enforcement, motor vehicle administration, traffic engineering and public health. Among the new developments discussed was the increasing use of microcomputers to make more effective use of the various kinds of data in traffic records systems. The need to link data files to increase their usefulness and the obstacles to such linkage were also discussed. One problem which was highlighted was the impact of budget-imposed reductions in police accident reporting on traffic engineering efforts to identify and correct hazardous highway segments or features. A total of 43 papers were presented in the following areas: the Lexington/Fayette County impact on the Kentucky traffic records system; new technology in microcomputers; law enforcement and traffic records systems; public health issues and traffic records; traffic records for vehicle safety and motor vehicle administration; accident reporting levels and needs of traffic engineers; data system linkage and administrative constraints in system development and operation; administrative constraints in the development and operations of traffic records systems; and, update on traffic records topics.
