LONGITUDINAL STRENGTH OF SHIPS
In the last 10 yr trials were carried out at sea by the Centre Belge de Recherches Navales (Ceberena) on various types of cargo ships in connection with their performance in waves. As most of these ships were equipped with strain gages amidships and with a Tucker gage, information was gained on low cycle and whipping stresses, and their relation to sea state. An endeavor was made to obtain the ultimate bending moment. Endurance curves were ascertained which correlate satisfactorily with the results of fatigue tests.
