HAZARDOUS CHEMICALS--LONDON HAS ANSWER

The Greater London Council has pioneered two services of international and national importance in its Hazchem code linked to the emergency services and the poisonous wastes unit. Hazchem allows firemen or police, first on the scene of a chemical incident which must be contained, to interpret a two-digit code - and go into action immediately without fear of taking the wrong action.
