ESTIMATING THE DEMAND FOR INTER-REGIONAL PASSENGER TRANSPORT

A brief account is given of the different ways in which the concept of demand can be considered. A study is made of the actual methods of estimating demand by making a distinction between those based on the collection of data (traffic counts, use of ticket sales record, passenger surveys, household and company surveys) and those based on the use of models. The models are described together with their capabilities and limitations, factors considered, calibration of available data, and comparison of predictions with actual results. The last chapter of the report outlines the recommendations made by the group with regard to the future.
