THE ELECTRIC STOPPING BRAKE FOR SHORT DISTANCE TRANSPORT STOCK FITTED WITH D.C. TRACTION MOTORS

The jacks used in power electronics can brake semi-fast trains and maintain them at a standstill on ramps, with the sole use of traction torques. The mechanical braking system is then no longer used in normal service, unlike present practices. The advantage of this solution lies above all in the possibilities it offers for automation of driving operations (unmanned trains) and saving on wear of mechanical parts. The following points are developed: 1) the extension of current electrical braking systems; 2) regulation of the electrical system for stop braking in accordance with maximum tolerable variations in acceleration for braking steps; 3) determination of additional heat stress in traction motors due to the electronic stop brake.
