THE ECONOMIC CONSEQUENCES OF THE CHANGED WEIGHT REGULATIONS FOR TRUCKS IN SWEDEN
As the Swedish infrastructure is characterised by an extensive network of roads with long distances between built-up areas so the permitted gross-weight for trucks is of great importance. The present Swedish regulations permit 10/16 tons axle/bogie-load on the major road network and an overall gross weight of 51.4 tons. The report presents the results of an investigation concerning costs and benefits of increased weight limits. The government transport policy decision in 1979, which forms the background for the study, meant that the construction and operation of roads should be based on community efficiency and contribute to an overall reduction of the costs for road freight.
