WHAT EVERY NEW YORKER SHOULD KNOW ABOUT OUR DRINKING DRIVER PROGRAM
This pamphlet describes the New York State Drinking Driver Program. It is a new and humane rehabilitative approach to the constant hazard of the drinking driver on the highway. Under this Program, the majority of motorists convicted of alcohol or drug-related traffic offenses who agree to attend a seven-week, 16-hour educational course may now receive, in return, a "conditional" license. The Program has a unique system of referral to an alcoholism treatment agency for professional evaluation--and, if needed, treatment and counseling--for those persons who appear to have alcohol problems. The Program also offers the courts additional flexibility in handling alcohol-related traffic violations. Costs of the Program are borne by the convicted drinking drivers.
