LOCAL AND POST-LOCAL BUCKLING OF FABRICATED BOX MEMBERS
A linear finite strip initial buckling analysis is used to develop design charts for calculating the elastic local buckling coefficients for rectangular box sections under a transverse gradient of longitudinal stress. A nonlinear finite strip method of analysis is then used to study the postbuckling response of isolated web plates and box sections. Test results reported elsewhere are used to extrapolate the elastic predictions to develop an expression for the postbuckling strength of box sections with residual stresses due to welding.
