EXPERIMENTS ON WATER PRESSURE ACTING ON THE BOW OF A LARGE, FULL TANKER IN ROUGH SEAS
The bows of several large and full ships which had large radii in these parts were damaged by water hammer in rough seas. This paper presents the results of analysis on the dynamic measurements of the water pressure at the side shell of the bow on a 200 000 DWT tanker in rough seas during navigation in winter in the South China Sea. Six water pressure gauges were attached in holes 45 mm in diameter on the side shell plate at the bow. Results were obtained for 43 hours of tests and the data for 19 of those hours were analyzed. It should be noted that the maximum peak value of water pressure has a 70 m head.
