MAINTENANCE OF IMPACT ATTENUATOR DEVICES USED IN OREGON
Studies were made of three barriers, the Texas Barrel, Hi-Dro Cushion and Fitch Inertial Barrier, at six installations located on the Interstate System. Details are given of the findings, and the statistics document the effectiveness of the impact attenuators. The Fitch Barrier installation is described as well as the hits experienced by the barriers. The high cost of replacement included both the cost of the cleanup of debris and the cost of replacement cylinders. Details of the Texas Barrel and Hi-Dro Cell installation, repair and replacement are outlined and comments are made on costs.
