INSTRUCTION HANDBOOK FOR COMPLYING WITH REGULATIONS ON IMPORTED MOTOR VEHICLES
This handbook provides guidance to persons who import motor vehicles, or motor vehicle equipment, into the Customs Territory of the United States, under the provisions of Customs Regulation 19 CFR 12.80, Section (b)(1)(iii), which do not conform to U.S. motor vehicle safety standards. Such importations are indicated by marking box No. "3" on the import declaration, HS Form 7, which is completed at the port of entry. Importers are required to post a bond with Customs to assure that such vehicles or equipment are brought into conformity with all applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) in effect on their dates of manufacture.
