EVALUATION OF GRADED LIMESTONE BASE COURSE ON A LOW VOLUME ROAD. FINAL REPORT

This study represents an investigation of the constructibility and performance of a graded limestone base course on a rural low volume road. Limestone test sections and soil cement control sections were constructed in 1981 and their performance was evaluated for a period of four years. Observations and measurements indicate that: the limestone test sections have rutted approximately 50% more than the soil cement control sections; all test sections; have to date retained a good ride quality; construction was non-uniform; the limestone sections may experience premature failure; and as expected the soil cement sections have experienced reflected block shrinkage cracking. Recommendations are made in an effort to improve the constructibility and performance of limestone base courses.
