THE MAJORITY OF PEDESTRIANS DO NOT FEEL SAFE. REPORT OF A SURVEY OF PEDESTRIANS
MEERDERHEID VOETGANGERS VOELT ZICH ONVEILIG. RAPPORT VOETGANGERSENQUETE
In the Netherlands great importance is attached to the subject of the survey. It was found that more than 50% of the pedestrians questioned feel unsafe, particularly in rural areas or when there is no sidewalk, or on crossing the road. 72% of the pedestrians think the speed of the vehicles is too high and 65% are not given priority by vehicles turning left or right or on pedestrian crossings. Many people think that the sidewalks are badly maintained and are too frequently used for parking of bicycles or cars. (TRRL)
