LIVING SAFELY IN RESIDENTIAL AREAS
VEILIG VERKEER IN STADSWIJKEN
During 1979 and 1982 in the cities of Eindhoven and Rijswijk infrastructural measures were introduced to improve the quality of living and the safety of residential areas and to improve the traffic flow at the same time. These demonstration projects on redivision and reconstruction of residential areas had the aim of obtaining data on the efficiency of such a structural, integrated approach to the problems in such areas. The road network in the areas was redesigned to prevent rat run traffic, to decrease the speed of through traffic and to make slow traffic more or less equivalent to other traffic. Some results of the project are presented. (TRRL)
