DESIGN OF FLEXIBLE PAVEMENTS BY USE OF HP-41C/HP-97 PROGRAMMES

DIMENSIONERING AF FLEKSIBLE VEJBEFAESTELSER VED BRUG AF HP-41C/HP-97 PROGRAMMER

The HP-97/HP-41C program described in this report is a special modified version of the general "DELSAN 4" program published under separate cover (the National Danish Road Laboratory, Laboratory Report No 49A, see TRIS abstract 451902). Modifications have been made in accordance with Danish specifications and standard pavement and/or overlay design procedure, where calculations of critical stresses and strains are normally based upon the use of a single design wheel load and an assumed Poisson's ratio for all structural layers of 0.50. The special program is also limited to accommodate linear elastic materials only. The uppermost (asphalt-bound) layer can, if desired, be divided into two layers with different e-moduli, the program then proceeds to calculate the horizontal asphalt strain at the bottom of the lower bound layer. The theoretical approach used in the "DELSAN 4" systems is based upon the method of equivalent thicknesses and the integrated boussinesq equations for stresses and strains under the centerline of an evenly distributed, circular load. These specific equations, though, have been utilized and modified through a series of adjustments so as to effect the best possible agreement with absolute linear-elastic solutions (e.g., Chevron or BISAR program solutions).
