Getting to Zero Through Infrastructure and Outreach
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is fully committed to getting to zero fatalities and serious injuries on our roadways, working toward this vision through its Target Zero initiative. Target Zero is a statewide effort to reduce the number of transportation-related serious injuries and deaths across Florida to zero. In 2019, FDOT’s District 5, which covers nine counties in Central Florida, was asked to identify a corridor with the highest rate of crashes, fatalities, and serious injuries, especially for our most vulnerable users within the district. This article describes this study and its outcomes.
