HERE TODAY-HERE TOMORROW?-THE UNCERTAIN FUTURE FOR BRITAIN'S BUSES
Government proposals for the deregulation of bus services, together with enforced privatisation, have created controversy as to the form and future of the bus system. This publication looks at the place of the bus in the transport system, examines the government's proposals for change, and asks whether deregulation of services is the best solution. A table shows that of all EEC countries, the UK and Belgium are the only two to have suffered a decline of bus and coach passengers over the decade 1971/81. All the other countries showed an increase. (TRRL)
