ELECTROMAGNETIC CONTROLLABLE-SLIP COUPLINGS FOR MARINE PROPULSION UNITS
In multi-engine propulsion systems the use of electromagnetic slip couplings to transmit power to the propellers is accepted practice. Recently, however, a special design of coupling has been introduced which can also be used to control the speed in the lower speed range. A speed controller with subordinated current control ensures that the required slip is obtained between the primary and secondary part of the coupling. Method of slip control employed is described.
