PROBLEMS LINKED TO THE END-BEARING RESISTANCE OF A PILE DRIVEN IN NON-COHESIVE SOIL

THE AUTHOR STUDIES THE PROBLEMS OF END-BEARING FORCE DISTRIBUTION AND LATERAL FRICTION ALONG DRIVEN AND EXTRACTED PILES. TESTS WERE CARRIED OUT DURING WHICH A METAL SHAFT, 50 MM IN DIAMETER AND INSTRUMENTED WITH SENSORS, WAS DRIVEN TO A DEPTH OF 30 TO 50 CM IN DRY SAND VARYING IN DENSITY WITH A VIEW TO MEASURING THE END-BEARING RESISTANCE. A SPECIAL DEVICE USED TO PLACE THE SAND IN THE TEST TANK ENABLES THE DESIRED VOID RATIO TO BE OBTAINED. RESULTS LED TO THE QUANTIFYING OF: (1) THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE BEARING FORCE BETWEEN THE END AND THE LATERAL SURFACE OF THE PILE; (2) THE IMPORTANCE OF THE UNIT PRESSURE WITHOUT THE END; (3) COEFFICIENTS NQ AND N GAMMA. THE TESTS SHOWED THAT THE BEARING CAPACITY OF A PILE DEPENDS, AMONG OTHER THINGS, ON THE DENSITY OF THE SOIL AND DEPTH OF FOUNDATION. THIS ARTICLE IS IN POLISH.
