THE BEHAVIOR OF PRESTRESSED CONCRETE PORTAL FRAMES AS INFLUENCED BY CREEP AND TEMPERATURE
This paper described experiments staged to observe the long-term effects of creep upon the behaviour of axially prestressed, two-pinned portal frames subjected to long-sustained elevated temperature regimes. The test apparatus is described and experimental results are presented. It is concluded that non-uniform temperatures significantly affect the deflection behaviour of the structures and cause internal stresses and moments to undergo marked changes with time. Elastic theory is incapable of estimating these changes. Other theories which recognize creep are therefore necessary. /TRRL/
