COMBINED STEAM AND GAS TURBINES FOR 40,000 SHP SINGLE-SCREW TANKERS
Various arrangements of machinery in which exhaust gas from the gas turbine is used to generate steam in a waste heat boiler are illustrated. A particular configuration having a boiler fed with exhaust gas at 510 Centigrade and supplying sufficient steam to produce up to 60 percent of the power of the gas turbine alone is described in detail. Its applications to a 500,000 t tanker is considered, with details of its potential in the way of power production, reversing capabilities electricity generation and pumping duties.
