TEES BRIDGE SWINGS INTO PLACE
THIS NOTE DESCRIBES THE POSITIONING OF THE FINAL SPAN OF THE A19 DIVERSION BRIDGE ACROSS THE TEES, BY A 400TONNE FLOATING CRANE. THE 150TONNE GIRDERS WERE LIFTED IN PAIRS AT A RATE OF 1M/MINUTE BY A SPECIAL FLY JIB OF 200TONNES CAPACITY. THE BRIDGE IS 20M HIGH. SOME INITIAL DIFFICULTY WITH THE LIFTING PINS WAS ENCOUNTERED BUT THE ENTIRE SPAN WAS ERECTED IN FOUR MAIN LIFTS. THE 67 APPROACH SPANS CONSIST OF SUPPORTED UNIVERSAL BEAMS COMPOSITE WITH A REINFORCED CONCRETE-DECK SLAB. /TRRL/
