TRANSPORTATION RESEARCH NEWS. NO. 57, WINTER 1974. COMMENTARY
The long-range objectives of the Transportation Research Board, now under the new Commission of Sociotechnical Systems, are stated. The propose of the Board is to advance knowledge regarding the nature and performance of transportation systems through the simulation of research and dissemination of information. The need for a national transportation policy is considered, as is the model which would precede such a policy. Such a model would provide complete information on alternative systems for urban people and goods movement. Though TRB could contribute significantly to the necessary research, the acquisition of sufficient data for such a model is impossible given the present economic constraints.
