THE BEARING CAPACITY OF FOOTINGS ON THIN GRANULAR STRATA
LA CAPACIDAD PORTANTE DE ZAPATAS SOBRE CAPAS GRANULARES DELGADAS
DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF THE STUDY OF NON-COHESIVE SOIL ON A RIGID BASE. AN ANALOGICAL BIDIMENSIONAL METHOD WAS USED WHICH ALLOWED FOR INVESTIGATION OF FAILURE PHENOMENA. THE TAYLOR-SCHNEEBELI MODEL WAS USED, AND THREE TYPES OF TESTS WERE CARRIED OUT: SMOOTH FOOTINGS ON A SMOOTH BASE; SMOOTH FOOTINGS ON A ROUGH BASE; ROUGH FOOTINGS ON A ROUGH BASE. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT THE FAILURE VALUES ARE SIMILAR TO THE LUNDGREN AND MORTENSEN SKETCH.
