FOAMED SULPHER FOR ROAD INSULATION TRIALS IN CANADA
Foamed sulphur, a potentially low-cost material, can be foamed in place and has excellent mechanical and insulting properties. Foam formulations (consisting of sulphur, a foam concentrate and a foaming agent) have been optimized, and pilot scale foaming and application equipment has been developed. Details are given of the formulation, two inches of which provides insulation equivalent to three feet of gravel. The truck-mounted foaming equipment which consists of a 100-gallon capacity sulphur tank is described, as well as the application procedure.
