FAILURE OF PLAIN CONCRETE UNDER COMBINED STRESSES (COMPRESSION-TORSION, TENSION-TORSION)
Experimental studies were made on the failure criteria of plain concrete. A special loading apparatus was developed to produce all the states under the combination of compression and tension by applying axial force and torsional moment. One hundred and forty specimens of concrete were tested, and the failure criteria were examined and discussed considering the intensity of the compressive strength of the concrete and the differences in the loading procedures. It is concluded that the strength of plain concrete under load of tension-torsion agrees approximately with the value calculated by the interpolation with the strength under compression-torsion and the tensile strength. /Author/TRRL/
