OBSERVING OCEAN SURFACE WAVES WITH A HELIUM-NEON LASER
A continuous wave helium-neon laser has been successfully utilized to obtain ocean wave profiles from an aircraft Power spectra of data obtained during an offshore, limited fetch, wind regime of 20 to 25 knots are presented along with results of a static comparison of the laser mounted in close proximity to a resistance wire wave staff aboard the Chesapeake Light Tower.
