BEHAVIOR OF METALS IN DESALTING ENVIRONMENTS--SIXTH PROGRESS REPORT
The Office of Saline Water (U.S. Department of the Interior), is sponsoring a materials program to provide guidelines on the corrosion behavior of metal families in desalination environments. This report examines (1) the corrosive effect of carbon dioxide and oxygen in the vapor and condensing vapor zones; (2) the variance of heat transfer coefficients for representative alloys under aggressive sea water chemistry conditions; (3) effect of brine concentration on representative alloys; (4) the corrosion resistance of representative alloy families to quiescent sea water; and (5) progress on a technique to predict the performance of alloys which fail by pitting and crevice corrosion. /Author/
